If you just look at Mowbray's comments he explains it all quite clearly.
We are more interested in the loan (with a view to buy) market.
That's where we feel we can get a better deal.
It worked perfectly with Armstrong.

The real intention was to try get these players on loan, with a view to buy.
The loan market gives you a chance to view a player. We took quite a few last season. Some where sent back, as they didn't work out. That's the positive, you don't have to comit to buying them.
Boro where desperate or us to buy Chapman.
