A study by International Insurance broker JTL has looked at the injuries to players who took part in the World Cup in Russia, and who play in the Premier League. Sky ran the story during the day and the findings show there has been an increase of 44%. That equates to 112 players missing games this season.

In the 2017/18 season when no major tournament took place the same players only missed 78 games. It lists a number of players who have missed games this season with names like Harry Kane, Deli Ali, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Jordan Henderson and Kevin de Bruyne. Virgil Van Dijk who did not go to the World Cup has remained almost injury free.

West Ham have the worst record with an average of seven player missing each game. That worked out at over 1000 days missed, while Wolves have the best record with only 250 games missed.

Knee injuries appear to be the most common ailments, with 75 so far this season.

We did well last season with injured players and with our small squad it is a credit to our medical team that we are still doing well. Touch wood.
