I’ve always paid my staff well above minimum wage and well above “the going rate” for their respective jobs and all my staff have been with me for a long time now.

I also pay a loyalty bonus as well as Xmas and summer bonuses to encourage people to stay.

However,imposing a minimum wage of £10 is not a good idea in my opinion and could cause some businesses real problems.

I examine my conscience each year when evaluating wages and I’d like to see more business owners do this.

The good effect of having a minimum wage set at its present sort of level is that it encourages businesses to give kids a chance because it’s affordable.

I accept that some businesses abuse the minimum wage though but the imposing a £10 starting point isn’t the answer.
