No.......not the long hot summer of 76 but the year before.

I was 13 and shortly to be 14 in the October.

It was the first time my mum and dad had been able to afford to take us away for a weeks holiday at a hotel and we stayed at The Edgcumbe Hotel on the front in Newquay.

Gosh I thought I was in heaven.

Indoor and outdoor pools and a basement room specially for ****agers complete with table tennis table,TV and a juke box.

Me amongst a group of totally inept mid ****s lads hopelessly out of our depth with the good looking birds who were already used to blokes a year or three older than themselves!

There’s two songs from that juke box that still bring it all back so vividly to me.....I can still see the faces and feel the excitement and the hopelessness of that room.

The Hustle by Van McCoy and I can’t give you anything but my love by The Styalistics.

I wondered if any of you ever stayed at The Edgecumbe in the past?

Below is a link to how it is now, pretty much derelict and filmed by a group of kids who specialise in filming empty buildings.......so sad and spooky to see what was once a great hotel in disrepair.

For many years since, including last year we’ve used the Watergate Bay Hotel which I can highly recommend......fantastic beach and surf.

Any other memories of ****age holidays and music memory jerkers lads?

Link to the old hotel.
