I'm not sure I see the contradiction.
Too right we should be starting each competition aiming to win them. The two cups speak for themselves as clearly no reason not to aim to win them. It will be refreshing if we start the league season saying we can win it rather than the normal McInnes defeatist p1sh that we are aiming for third because we can't finish above celtic/sevco due to budgets blah blah blah. That's not to say we will actually win any of them but at least get rid of the pathetic negative mindset that seems to infect the club currently. See below for quote from Sheerin pre-match
The aim is to try and stay in the cup and to see how far that we can go. As a club we pride ourselves on getting to the later stages of cup competitions so we will try to do that.
There is just much f'ckin wrong with that attitude I don't know where to start. "try to stay in the cup", "pride ourselves in getting to later stages of cup" "we will try". NO, NO, NO, NO, NO.
Since when did "trying" to beat the team second bottom of the third league become acceptable?
Since when did getting to the later stages rather than wining the cup become something to be proud of?
As I said defeatist p1sh and glad to see Cormack trying to eradicate it.
Now the reason I don't see a contradiction is that we can aim to win everything but clearly we won't - that won't be a sackable offence, as long as he has us playing attractive football and has the right attitude. However he has put down a marker that he expects us to be winning a trophy every few years. If Glass doesn't deliver then that will be a sackable offence. He was deliberately vague but I would imagine a few is something like every 3-4 seasons.
