That could quite easily be as a championship club as they didn't pay anything substantial to buy it from Patrick Cryne , in fact they haven't even paid for it in full as yet .

Yer right on one part - that the owners are wanting a return.
But IMO yer wrong in as much as - the bigger and better Barnsley becomes - the more profit the directors will receive.

The jackpot money (£100m +++) comes if the directors get the club into the Premier.
Valerian showed in just half a season that the jackpot is achievable.
£2 million compensation for Valerian is chicken feed.
