    Another aspect of why the members would not have Sunak is that his resignation was the first and decisive blow against Johnson. No matter how bad the leader the person who triggers his / her downfall does not become leader.

    At the age of 42 Sunak has 15 years to be a strong leadership contender. The party rarely appoints a new leader who is older than 57, Theresa May being one exception. When Sunak is in his late fifties there will be several 'bright, young things' in the running.
