The guys talking about it all played the sport at the top level and are all involved in clubs where kids are encouraged to get involved and benefit from the experiences of older players. Or put another way, coached. I began playing my chosen sport when I was 17 and have had one full day session of coaching and wish I had had much more at a young age. I have done ok but believe I could have been much better with coaching as school kid. Interesting to hear professionals saying the opposite of what you say!
