I'm not surprised. My reason is that I no longer want to watch England. I remember being very caught up in the 1966 World Cup when I was a ****ager. These days, the only football I really keep up with is Newcastle. The England team has no interest at all for me.
Considering the huge wages now paid to Club footballers, why would you bother with a national team? You might get injured and imperil your Club career. At best, you are going to be playing games that people like me can't even be arsed to watch.
Surely, declining a place in the England team is going to become far more commonplace.
Which makes me also wonder why anyone would imagine Eddie Howe has any ambitions to be England manager. Not much in it for him, i'd have thought.
