We usually play a 352 formation.
Ismael tweaked that to 343 - which IMO is the best formation as the high press seems to work better - and the ball is moved forward more quickly.
These two formations were sort of set in stone.

However - the latest Sormaz interview revealed we might see something very different to the usual 352 or 343 formations.
He spoke about finding forwards with flexibility - that they wern’t looking for players that are just out and out strikers.

So my first thoughts were that the end of the window was a poor one.
They got good players in with Huphreys and Dunn joining the club - who I would describe more as attacking midfielders - but they didn’t manage to get any replacements or backup for the out and out strikers such as Watters and Cosgrove (who have yet to prove themselves).

Well it seems from the Sormaz interview that they wernt even looking to strengthen the central 2 strikers.
They were looking for something different - that is to say strikers that are flexible and can attack from deep eg players like Humphreys and Dunn.

I think we saw an indication of what’s coming when we played Crawley.
I’ve never known Barnsley play what seemed a 541 formation before.

Now DC has a couple of more options I think the starting formation could be 4231.
With Craig and Connell playing the anchor midfield 2 - while Humphreys, Dunn and Phillips play behind a single front striker.

IMO, within the club there has been a general overhaul of how the team plays.
