    Defensive Debate

With Winston finally fit, Sam potentially has a problem, Tomkins and Collins don`t deserve to be dropped imo but I believe we are stronger defensively with Reid in it.

    So, what to do ?

Is their an argument for playing all 3 in a 3-5-2 formation or a 3-6-1, we certainly have options from the midfield point of view.

    Here is a viable option

    Adrian
    Reid Collins Tomkins
    Noble Taylor
    Downing Morrison J.Cole
    Nolan
    Carroll

Ive left out the newbies because I havnt seen them play, but their are plenty of permutations.

    Just an idea, debate

    morning Alf

not sure that would work mate, personally think they'd crowd each other out,

we look quite reasonable with Demel and Linda as natural WB's
wouldn't like to upset that balance really,

as for the Ried, Tomkins, Collins debate, well 1 or 2 are usually injured anyway.

decide on the best pairing, and put them in.

the third just has to work harder, or take his chance if an injury occurs.

Would like to see us play 3 at back but it won't happen. It would suit our players (if correct ones chose) but it isn't fashionable at the moment.

I know Im the only fan of the idea...

But I'm convinced Tomkins could play alongside Noble.

I think he could bring more to the position than the admirable Taylor who is really just a willing soldier.

I wouldn't have Joe Cole anywhere near the starting line up.

Tomkins has played there Mike and looked like a fish out of water. If we want that sort of player, then go out and buy a defensive midfielder.

Playing him out of position like that is a complete waste. Him and Reid are the best cb pairing imo.

I know he's played there before...and he didnt shine

It was against top opposition.3 games one of which ended in a victory against Chelsea.

He is a better player now, and would have our best centre back pairing behind him.

He seems to have all the qualities which would release Noble and maybe Morrison to get to the sharp end a bit quicker.

    re: Defensive Debate

if there is 1 thing that we have in abundance then its midfielders,

what we don't have in abundance is quality center halfs,

as for his (Tomkins) performances in this said position..

    why put him thru it!

O'brien and Taylor are far better than he is and the majority don't even rate them.

    An abundance pf midfield

    In only.

It's the root of all our problems not having a quality centre midfielder.
