    Zulu is a quality filum.

So is A Bridge Too Far.

the Longest Day is a firm favourite of mine though.

Richard Todd played Maj John Howard (the OC of the Para Coy who took and defended Pegasus Bridge) in the film The Longest Day, alongside an uncredited actor who played a young Capt Richard Todd. He (Richard Todd) was the only actor on set who had actually jumped on D-Day.

The Great Escape makes my blood boil; it was Hollywoodised p1sh. The Steve McQueen character never existed and was only put in the film to keep the pea-brained Yanks interested in the film.

An old gentleman who used to live on Bute was one of the last survivors of the escape attempt. He died a few years ago in Erskine Hospital. I used to deliver his milk. See the linky*

Thon Richard Todd has reminded me of another soldier turned actor, Christopher Lee.

That guy is hard as nails. He was attached to the Long Range Desert Patrols, which were the forerunner to the SAS.

While fiming Saruman's death scene (now on the extended verison of TLOTR, Return of The King), Peter Jackson tried to tell Christopher Lee how to react and breathe after he was stabbed in the back. As a veteran of WWII with the British Special Forces, assured the director that he knew exactly what a man sounded like when stabbed in the back.

    Phucking nails.
