re: I am not sure I would like to see us go up

Trouble is, if we don't do it this season, will we suffer 'second season syndrome' next year? Lose some players, gamble that any incomings (on a tight budget again most likely) are better than what we've got now, need to change our style - will teams have worked us out?

Going up and staying up would be hard, but we may well get some wonga to spend and SMc/Chris Evans will have a lot of player knowledge to try and get some bargains in place.

If we don't go up, and start next season sluggishly, the knives will be out straight away for SMc et al, our tight knit squad could be in tatters and we're back to square bloody 1 circa 2008/9 again.

what a surprise...I'm in agreement with triz and not with the rat.

I think we've got a lot of fans that were scarred by that ill fated year in the premier league but even then I enjoyed my trips to old Trafford, anfield, emirates etc etc

we will by no means fail if we get promoted. don't forget mac was the England boss, he's got a lot of contacts at the top level and in Europe. a lot of clubs have punched above their weight for some time now. look at stoke! clubs like Norwich and Southampton has done brilliantly. even to hit 40 points means you've been competitive. you haven't been 'thumped every week'.

but if all else fails it boils down to one question...would you rather be **** in the premier league or **** in the championship? because the past 4/5 years we've been pretty rubbish in this league and who's to say it won't go to pot next season if we don't go up?

I know I'd rather watch us lose at man utd than Brentford!

So we don't want to go up, because the best we can hope for is mid table Prem mediocrity.

However the alternative is, not getting promoted, staying in the champ for an infinite number of seasons, just aiming to finish above let's say 10th, but not 6th or above because then we would risk promotion.

Strange way of thinking? Both options sound like mediocrity to me.

If we go up then so be it. The aim of this club must always to be to try and do our best. If not that's when complacency kicks in. As we have seen recently.

Getting whooped every week is nobody's idea of fun but that aside I think/hope that we would be better prepared, we are certainly under a more tactically aware management team which could prove the difference.

The relegation scrap in the PL is usually (this season an exception)more exciting than the battle for the title, though thats easier to say as a third party fan.

Surely if we went up we would attract players whereas if we don't we risk losing them - Bryson, Hughes, Hendrick and the loan players.

I'd love to see us have another crack and if we were to fail again at least we had the chance.

The ONLY true winners if Derby get promoted will be the players (salaries) and the local Porsche dealers.

not the fans that get to go to old Trafford, emirates, anfield every other week? seeing world class football on our doorstep every other?

how very socialist. besides, I was under the impression dealerships gave players cars for PR purposes.

I've always thought promotion can be bitter sweet for players. a lot of them would possibly never play for the club again, those that aren't deemed good enough or maybe frozen out of the first team picture rotting in the reserves. they wouldn't all gain from it in the long term.

re: I am not sure I would like to see us go up

Whats the point of trying to be top 6 in the championship if we dont want to go up?

Sure we will form the bottom half of the prem but the knock on effects in terms of revenue will be positive and IF managed well, then we have every chance of survival and fans will enjoy seeing world class players and the club can continue to develop.

As has been said its a mixed bag for the players I'd say over half of this squad will not feature in the premier league should we get there.

But hey lets worry about that IF we actually get there, for now we can enjoy the ride!

Your right there Triz, Ron Willems, Robin van der Laan and Simmo himself are ones that pretty much struggled after we got promoted

I see why some wouldn't want to go up. At least in the championship we have a realistic chance of success, whereas success in the prem would take years.

Given the opportunity though, we have to take it. Even those who say theyd be happier in the championship would enjoy the buzz of going up. I reckon the owners would back mcclaren if we went up too. I don't think it's too much of a stretch to say we're big enough for uefa cup, in time ofcourse.
