You are probably right there SouthernRam, he was without doubt statistically Derby County's greatest goalscorer. The opinion about greatest player is open to conjecture, as how do we quantify 'greatness'?

well having not seen him in play i cant really comment but their career trajectories would indicate this isn't the case. Messi has a good argument for being the best player that has ever lived, hector not so much.

As a boy Growing up in the 70's for me the "Hector" became synonymous with Derby County winning, and big crowds shoe-horned into the BBG. The whole association is encapsulated in MotD commentary moment at a home game in 1971 when the unforgettable throaty tone of David Coleman exclaimed "Hec-ter!". The whole sound and the way Coleman said it took on a large heap of surplus meaning which said "Hector is on the ball in front of goal and before he even strikes it, we all know that the ball will hit the back of the net".

Kevin Hector is in microcosm the footballer of the 1970s. He was just brilliant.

Now that we've voted Hector as the greatest ever, surely the Club will honour him: he's 69 now. Guest of honour at a forthcoming game and part of the stadiumd after him?

He was simply a brilliant player. Certainly the most gifted forward I ever saw play for the Rams. He should have had 60 or 70 England caps but for some inexplicable reason he was overlooked by the England Managers of the time.

There was mention of Raich Carter, add to that list Leon Leuty, Peter Doherty and Dally Duncan from the older era.

Another player that I thought was fantastic and could shoot equally well with both feet...Alan "Gladys" Hinton. The best crosser of a ball that i have ever seen

I'm a Mackay fan. But I think he wasn't part of the 72 winning team, or was he? That probably cost him some votes.

I think Hector wins this, but Mackay won player of the year (shared with Book I think) as a 2nd division player - that's really something.

Mackay wins as your best ever player turned manager - no contest.
He might even run Clough and Taylor close as being the best manager ever.
