With voting almost closed, I was wondering who you lot have voted for?

After some deliberation, I opted for Martin. It came down to Martin, Buxton and Bryson for me, but in the end I couldn't see past Martin's 20+ goals and sheer importance to our style of play.

Craig Bryson for me. 2 hat-tricks, including one against the Red Dogs, plus tireless and self-less running in midfield, often with unnoticed importance to the bigger picture. He's improved his goal tally last season as he indeed set out to do. Strikers like Martin are paid to score goals. Bryson is the engine-room who has caused Derby to tick and he's scored almost as many as the main striker.

I suppose another deciding factor for me was the fact Bryson had somewhat been off the boil from Christmas up until the Forest game, whereas I think Martin's been consistently brilliant. I agree strikers are paid to score goals, but if Martin had only bagged 5-10, I reckon he'd still be a key cog in the Derby County footballing machine.

D_D I'd be more than happy with CM getting it. It took me a while to see CM's wider significance to the team. I think the team gradually have learned how to use CM's strengths to the team's advantage; that said, CM's style needs midfielders who run late and burst through and the one who does that to full effect is Craig Bryson. So he gets my vote.

I'm with D_D on this one, tough call between Bucko & Martin but Martin's 20+ goals is an incredible achievement and gets nowhere near the plaudits of Howard, Hulse & Rasiak of the last decade. He's come out as our best striker in generations, and I admit to being completely and wrongly underwhelmed with him at the end of last year.

Bryson's been awesome at times, but not consistantly enough for me to warrant a season's award. If he could develop the ability to grab a game by its scruff when things aren't going well then he'd probably have been more in line in my eyes.

I'm in complete agreement with ella. Bryson just nicked it in the end imo. I wouldn't grumble with any of the 3 to be fair. I had them in this order:

1. Bryson - when's the last time a [b] box to b

Bryson and Martin were tough to separate. Their contribution in terms of goals speaks for itself and they have both been indispensable to our general attacking play over the course of the season. We miss them both massively when they are not there. I gave the nod to Bryson as, as has been mentioned before, the numbers of goals from midfield goes in tandem with his ability to break up opposition attacks and get stuck in at the other end. Real box to box player. Buxton came in third as he is probably our most improved player. Real muck and bullets defender whilst also having developed an ability to play a bit in his time here. Who would have thought he would have ever even entered into POY debates when he first arrived!?! Congratulations to both sets of management and most of all to Buxton himself on that one!

Having said all that about Bucko, and perhaps I will be shot down for this, I feel we do need two or three quality additions across our defence if

Martin (22 goals and 8 assists = 30 "points" - in ice hockey terms) just shades it over Bryson (16 goals, 12 assists = 28 points) for me.

Plus he was cheap - well done Sam Rush for signing him at the start of the season.
