    The Wigan Myth

I have read several times on here about Wigan being the form team and wanting to avoid them.

We may want to avoid them, but they are not the form team.

Right now WE are the form team! We are the #1 team in the Championship over the last 6 games.

    Derby 15pts
    Blackburn 12pts
    Brighton 10pts
    Ipswich 8pts
    Forest 8pts
    Reading 8pts
    Wigan 8pts
QPR 7pts - view external link

    absolutely.

I fear them because I've said in the countless threads about potential play off opponents... they're about the only side I can remember since mac took over that have completely and utterly stopped us playing, shut us down and nullified any attacking threat. we'd be more suited to a team playing open football.

Well Burnley seemed to no how to break em down. Quite easily in fact. They battered them last week and most people thought Wigan might do them. They are nothing to fear. In fact we should not fear any of them teams in the play offs. COYR

    Hantsram - an excellent post!!

Completely agree and some of the doubts expressed about how we would cope against Wigan by posters on here are an injustice to the form and performance of the Rams. ( Even if if the stats were different we shouldn't write ourselves off.)

Rossler seems to making regular big changes in his team selection ( not just cup versus league) and some Wigan fans felt he got his selection and tactics against Burnley badly wrong.

    Thanks.
I am sure Steve and Simmo will have learned from our performance against Wigan in January, and will be carefully wtching videos of matches against Burnely and others... assuming we end up facing Wigan.

When you look at the form of most of those teams, 7 or 8 points from 6 games, that's bottom half of table form.

We've had fairly easy, and largely pressure less games recently tho, compared to others on that list.

Whoever we play, the form book will go out of the window and it'll all about who can hoold their nerve and impose their tactics on the other.

QPR and Wigan have both beaten, and been beaten by us. QPR beat us playing open, and we beat them with a grinding performance, whilst we 'showboated' Wigan at their place, and got stifled and bullied by them in their win here.

So, would we attack Wigan and sit back vs QPR?

We will most likely not play either in the semis anyway, and I'll look no further than that!

Why were our games easier (debatable), look at Sunderland against top teams, or less pressure(ridiculous), why are we under less pressure than anyone else in the mix?

Why does everyone try to analyse the backside out of everything.

Just look at those six fixtures they have had...

Lost 2 0 at Burnley same as us.
Lost 0 1 home to Millwall same as us
Drew 1 1 with Bolton same as us
Beat reading 3 0 better than us
Drew 2 2 with fester better than us
Beat weeds 1 0 not as much as us.

Oh and had the distraction of an FA cup semi at wembley and a terrific 1 1 draw with Arsenal.

So same fixtures as us three points more with extra time and a massive match too. Pretty creditable considering.

Then compare to who we've played in the same six.

Over six games doesn't show true form.

No such thing as easy games anymore, those days have gone. Anyone in the Championship can beat anyone on the day. The nice thing is we are in the play offs!!! All we have to do now is beat whatever teams are thrown our way then it's job done, if not move on and let's see if we can get there next season as Champions instead.
