    The atmosphere can win this

Great to be a goal up but still going to be tough (remember Southampton in 2006/07, we went into the home leg in exactly the same situation... And we scored early in the second game too).

The fans are going to be the difference tonight. 28/29 thousand home fans need to drown out those that come up from Brighton. We've been like the 12th man at times this season which is fantastic after the sterile atmosphere our ground has produced for several years.

Never been more important than tonight.

Agreed. Although I haven't been to as many games as I'd have liked this season, I was a season ticket holder for 5 years starting with last promotion season and the fans had a massive part to play then too. Listening and watching games this season it's obvious the fans are right behind the team. No matter what happens in these play offs the fans should and hopefully will stay right behind Steve Mac and the lads whichever league we're in. He obviously knows what he's doing and even if we were to stay in the Champ, I'd completely trust their judgment to create a team with quality and team spirit next year.
As for tonight the fans can play a massive part in pushing us over the finish line.

re: The atmosphere can win this

The atmosphere made no difference against Southampton and it was one of the few times there has been one in uk terms. Remember we lost that game!

I recently learnt where the term "twelfth man" in reference to the crowd came from. It's to a certain set of fans and hails back about 90 years. To American football. However there are a number of clubs who celebrate being the 12th man because they all had one thing in common. A ground that lends itself to the acoustics. The baseball ground was one of these and sadly now gone.

So many people moan about PP Never really having an atmosphere or big game nights. I think this is a big factor. Even beating manure it wasn't that great.

It will probably be exciting but will it be a truly great atmosphere in the scheme of things?

I think during that last promotion season the fans did make a big difference to a team who were all about spirit rather than talent and in that Southampton game the fans did make a difference particularly winning on pens.

Thanks Rats, that's just what we need before the match, to start criticising the stadium acoustics and saying atmosphere doesn't matter.

Obviously it's not as good as the old days at the BG but that's new stadiums for you, they're bigger for a start, more open. BG was smaller and closed in, but it couldn't accommodate the fan base.

As for the Southampton game, we WON that game, it was a cup match and we WON on penalties. If the atmosphere hadn't been as good, perhaps we would have lost. Perhaps the 12th man made the difference that night.

Maybe it won't be as intense tonight as days of old but harping back to the past is not relevant, this is about NOW. As for where the phrase '12th man' comes from, that doesn't have any significance, it's a perfectly relevant phrase to recognise the psychological impact that supporters can have.

We will need that impact tonight. No question about it.

im sorry you have felt fit to serve manx ram a yellow . even the mods which rattea is one must see that his provoking comments and running down of the team club and anyone who speaks against him is unfair and unwarranted. he may be the person with most posts but why should that make a difference. I will be addressing this to all the mods and the footy mad hierarchy. and will be asking is it not time rattea was made to stand down.its a free board not a dictatorship guys
