    Hodgson v Clough

Struck me reading the other thread that there are similarities here.

Clough = Decent pool of players but did not know what to do with them!!

Hodgson = Decent pool of players but does he know what to do with them??

If Woy gets this right we could have a decent WC. I have my doubts though. We will play for a draw against Italy (ala Clough) and then try and scrape through by being conservative. It will be another wasted opportunity.

Correct...scrape draws with Italy and Uruguay and then blow it against Costa Rica is my bet. Home after 3 games and a depressed UTR.

hodgson was appointed because the FA wanted a yes man that wouldn't cause them any problems. I've seen absolutely nothing during his tenure to convince me he's a good England manager. how many good performances have we seen from his England sides?

the world cup will no doubt be poor, as always. I wonder how many games we will play for draws.

Clough and Hodgson also share a cautious approach as managers.

Sorry Angry, but the folllowing amendment is required...

Hodgson - Hopeless sub-par overpaid / overhyped group of players, knows what he's doing.

It's time we accepted that we are a below par footballing nation rather than pinning hopeless expectations and pressure on otherwise successful managers. If Hodgson stops us getting humiliated then he's done a good job, if he gets us passed the 1st group then he's pulled a miracle.

Not expousing Clough as a comeback but he is in a position where he doesn't need to clear the dead wood and what great job he has done at Sheffield. They were relegation material but now just one place off the promotion places so will alway wish him well. On comparison a bit too conservative but someone that am sure the greatest sceptic should acknowledge as a positive contribution to Derby. Some may expect a faster solution but looking forward to this season more than the last for some while. Happy to acknowledge Clough's contribution but SM has brought the team to serious challengers and no offence but couldn't see Cloug doing the same.

Don't agree with you there Adi.. Yes in the past 100% correct but now at least he has some yoof in the squad and some talented ones at that. Does he know how to use them and get the best out of them or will he resort to a no risk approach.. My gut says he will but I think we have a last 8 group of players if used correctly.
Has he got the nads to drop Rooney? Or will he fall into the same old trap.. He was good in 2004 so he must still be good!! Pundits keep banging that drum and it pee's me off.. If we f

I think Woy is a decent manager and will get England into the q-finals.

For those who are barracking him, don't forget who was the alternative - Our 'Arry!

Yeah, but at least 'Arry is a jammy sod. We are going to need a huge amount of luck to get to the quarter finals.
