    Thorne bid rejected

    It's just shy of one million according to "[Steve Nicholson's] good mate Bren McGloughlin".

    West Brom have released this statement;

    And Baggies reject undisclosed offer for Thorne

    ALBION have today rejected an undisclosed offer from Derby for George Thorne – and made it clear that none of their players are for sale.

    Thorne, who was rewarded with an improved three-and-a-half-year deal in January, enjoyed a successful four-month spell on loan at County last season.

    Derby now want to make the midfielder’s move permanent but the Baggies are not willing to entertain any offers for the 21-year-old.

    Terry Burton, who officially joined the club as Technical Director on June 1, said: “George has progressed through the Academy into the first-team squad and we have high hopes for him.

    “He underlined his potential while on loan at Derby and we have no intentions of selling him. We have told Derby he is not for sale and that is the end of the matter as far as we’re concerned.

    Not sure I agree with that statement. It's either a smoke screen, or carrot.
    Every player has his price. A player with promise from the Prem, who has just signed a new contract isn't going anywhere for a million quid.

    Best of luck to DC, but I feel you won't even get WBA to sit down for any less than 2 million. No one, leaves there cheap.

    We've been in talks with West Brom for about a month now. If he truly isn't for sale why would we make a low bid after a month of discussions?

    I'd suspect they have been trying to sound them out or going for a season long loan. WBA aren't that accommodating I suppose. The Baggies on here said so much.

    Saying a player is not for sale is similar to an owner publicly announcing that he has confidence in his manager... This is usually followed in less than a month with a firing.
    As someone once said: "We are all whores if the price is right".

    It seems Baggie fans are right about their chairman being a bit of a tough nut. They've also rejected a one million pound bid from Burnley for Dawson, but as you can clearly see, there's no mention of his in the statement. They're singling Thorne out, making an example of him.

    Why would we even bother making a bid if there wasnt a chance of buying the player? So much goes on behind the scenes with these deals that whats said in public is often far from the truth.

    A £1 million bid does seem derisory though!

    You may have a better chance in Jan if he doesn't prove that he's of use to us in the Prem before then, but not for a laughable amount like the one quoted. I'd say 3 million, if you're lucky, so I wouldn't hold your breath on this one.
