    What rumour? If a player is sold by the club then they have the right to have their contract paid up, although they usually agree a settlement to get the transfer over with quicker if the two parties feel the same way, but If they hand in a transfer request then it is classed as them wanting to leave and thus forfeit that right to any financial gains they would otherwise get.
