Which is fair. It seems we aren't budging from 1.5 mill. When i heard we'd get him for 2 - 2.5 mill i thought that seemed fair,i'd pay 2 mill for him and i think if we upped our offer by half a mill we'd get him. It'll be a shame to lose out for that amount but if we don't have the budget for it, what can you do.

For the sake of £1m (I know it is a lot of money) it could be the difference between going up and missing out again. We have a good squad possibly capable of a top 6 finish, but surely it makes sense to complete the jigsaw.

Derby have missed out on some whopper of players for the sake of a few hundred grand in the past.

Eidur Gudjohnson - we wouldnt pay an extra 400k

Jonaton Johannson - we wouldnt pay an extra 150k

i say balls to using 1.5 million to sign Jutz from borough and up the Thorne offer.

Except it doesn't work like that! if your plan is for example to recruit a ST, RB and DM and your budget is X, it does not make sense to blow it on one player as according to the plan you still need the other two players!

    Slowly slowly cathee Thorne

Anyway we arent paying £1.5 million for Juk!

Good as Thorne was he did only play 7 games for us and so we managed the greater part of the season without him, so I'm sure Derby can find another DM if required.

Have to agree with the general feeling on here that £2m to £2.5m is about right for Thorne.

Compare him to Hendrick. I would be very disappointed if Hendrick left for less than £2m and Thorne is more technically gifted than Hendrick (though not necessarily a better player within a team structure of course).

Not that I'm suggesting we should sell Hendrick - far from it - but he does provide us with a yardstick.

Of course what a player is worth and what you are prepared (or can afford) to pay are two different things. But if the club pull this off for anything below £2m plus add-ons I think its another feather in the Rush-Evans-McClaren hat(s).

    I really hope they do.

    re: Thorne

Thorne played 45 mins for West Brom today in a behind closed doors victory over Bury. Does this mean...

    a) the deal is off and he is staying (why play a player a few days before a transfer and risk him getting injured which could ruin the deal)

    b) don't be silly, he needs to stay fit and it is professional to play (regardless of what else is happening he is their employee)

    c) neither of the above but here's my view (complete as appropriate)

Look forward to the responses lads
