Why should you reaveal them. the person is doing you a favour by passing any info.

There's a twofold issue here with what you are describing as sources.

A member on here might be close to Sam Rush, has a couple of beers and gleans some DCFC info which it is sensible not to necessarily plaster all over the internet.

No you shouldn't have to reveal your source.

You are a reporter being paid an awful lot of money to publish an article which (for instance) implies a national coach "insulted some players and people were upset".

In this case you should reveal your source - similar one Nixon makes up his transfer stories and covers himself with "a source tells me"

If reporters had to reveal their sources the phone hacking would have become a lot more apparent.
