    D_D's Player Ratings vs. Rangers

There was a party atmosphere around the ground today with Rangers coming to town, all of which were noisy and seemingly well-behaved.

Before I get onto the ratings, I want to commend both sets of fans for some wonderful displays of national pride. Rangers raised a large flag saying "four countries, one flag, our United Kingdom", and "Rule Britannia" was sung by most, as was the national anthem. It really was great to see, and the act was applauded by all inside the ground.

    On to the ratings:

Grant 6- Not tested at all, but looked safe. His distribution was largely poor, especially when compared to Roos's, which should give McClaren and Steele something to think about.

Christie 7- He looks to get forward at every opportunity, giving us an outlet on the wing. Wisdom had a swagger about him, he was a very confident defender. Christie looks solid, but not as cool and collected as Wisdom. That said, he's certainly the better attacking full-back. Forsyth's improvement under McClaren has

Did Hughes spray any long passes about? I've thought before that in that deep position he could just sit there and spray passes about, Pirlo style, but he's never really had the chance to (as under Clough once he had collected the ball from the defence he would then wander up field linking play)

I'd also say that the fears aren't about his creativity from that position, it's about the team's balance and his discipline. It's alright him beating three or four players and setting up a goal or having a shot, but that's not what he's there to do. I'd be worried about him trying that against stronger opposition.

Still, it's very pleasing to see that he's doing well there!

I disagree with you not wanting him to push on and be creative at times because "that's not what he's there to do."

Hendrick and Bryson had covered for him, and it gives us another dimension. He was positionally excellent all game and I have a lot of faith in him the

It would be interesting to see Rattea's assessment of Hughes if he was at the game of course.
