He owns a business that he makes money out of, that's his right.
The only problem is in any other line of business customers would just go elsewhere, football fans can't do that. We just have to suffer the whims of the wealthy.
Not quite true Tricky. They are protesting and boycotting. If the situation becomes untenable, he'll bail out. Probably take all the dosh with him.Originally Posted by tricky1972
Let's just say Forest somehow succeed in making the Prem. I wouldn't mind Fawaz taking a portion out as part of his investment, so long as he leaves a sum behind to let the club operate fairly.
If we stay 2 seasons, clear the debt, spent wisely and he takes his share, fair enough.
In fact I think the Hull model wasn't bad or even Reading's. Don't spend foolish money in the Prem, if you go back down, you still have the resources and means to challenge again. Hull went up and stayed up, the 2nd time around.
I don't have a problem with it.
Oyston has said many times before that he and the club will not be held to ransom by paying over the odds for any player, no matter what. Neither will they cut corners on the admin stuff.
He took out money from the promotion season that his family had put in over a number of years. None of the Blackpool fans were complaining when he was putting it in and simply keeping the club afloat, but they are up in arms because he 1) takes back what is owed when it is available and 2) refuses to compromise the clubs financial future by overspending now.
It is the mind set of fans these days. They all believe they have some god given right to expect someone else to cough up cash and bail out/advance their club.
People need to get their heads out of their ****s. If fans want the success so much then they should splash up the extra cash needed to try and achieve it themselves. They wont of course, because they know they'll lose most of it. But it's okay to expect

TTR, I think you've misunderstood the issue at Blackpool. It isn't that they are on the verge of bankruptcy, in fact they are the richest team in the division. It's just that Karl Oyston wouldn't allow the money to be spent.
The issue doesn't seem to be that Oyston has taken all of the money, he just doesn't want to over commit the club. Here is a quote from an interview after the Forest game...
"We wasted far too much time chasing targets we would never ever be able to recruit. In many cases, there were illegal requests from agents which would have meant us breaking tax and football rules. We are not prepared to conduct our business in that way.
There’s no other way of doing things than doing them properly, and I’ll continue to stick to doing what I believe is for the long-term benefit of Blackpool FC.
Several players who said at the start of the summer that they wouldn’t talk to us unless we offered them £10,000 a week are now calling us saying they will accept £3,000 a week.

And the price of a season ticket is?... A replica shirt?...pint and a pie at the ground? ...How much do they pay the kids serving or working in the club shop? ...
You can't offset this revenue against the weekly wage bill of the players.
Most clubs in the prem and championship rely on handouts from rich owners. All helll has broke loose because one of these owners wants some of his money back
Obviously we can't expect all owners to just open their wallets all the time. It should not be a 1 way street all the time, and we should expect and allow owners, to recoup their investment when the opportunity arises.
However owning a football club shouldn't be made or expected to be an investment opportunity. There are far better things or more normal ways where you expect a businessman to put his money in the hopes of making it grow and making a killing.
If you do it that way with football clubs, it'll kill the game eventually. Everything is done for a profit, don't matter if the club's performance is poor, don't matter if wages paid even to non-playing staff is unfair. Profits come first, wherever you can squeeze, you squeeze.
It's like buying a racehorse, of course you hope it can succeed, but your first priority is to ensure it's well fed and trained, that it has the resources it needs to succeed. If does succeed well and good, but you buy a horse for the thrill and pleasure
