    Expectations

Seems last seasons success has raised expectations, whereas in truth we out performed last season for a team that is still following the route of building slowly acquiring good young talent and retaining players we already have.

Yes the club could ignore FFP and splash out on more experienced players but one only has to look at the likes of Fulham and Blackburn to see that does not bring instant success - we might not have a star player (yet) but what we do have is a team that is more than the sum of its parts and will be challenging for promotion this season.

Personally I don't see us as second favs to go up. What were/are my expectations for this season? Play offs, yes.. At least to compete at the right end of the table. Prior to the Thorne injury, then I would have liked to think we would have at least been in the mix for an automatic spot. We are now seeing that the team shape has distorted without Thorne and we lack the flui

I remember a thread once where someone said about the euros that they had no expectations then go on to tell us their expectations. That was COMEDY GOLD

My expectations this season is my cautions raised last year will be proved true and people will still try to deny it or create lies to try and back track. Pretty standards.

I think current form is showing where we are as a club and haven't improved in the last 12 months and possibly moved backwards!

I agree we looked a class act with Thorne. However before Thorne arrived we were doing okay, Eustace was playing a very important role and IMO until this position is adequately filled then we will blow hot and cold.

I like Hughes but that position does not play to his strengths at all. Mascarell...he's not built like Thorne or Eustace but I think this position is more natural to him compared to Hughes so IMO it's time for him to start and Hughes, Hendrick and Bryson battle it out. I also think there is nothing wrong in have The Eust in the team to steady the ship.

Thornes injury was a major spanner but this could happen to Martin, Bryson etc who like Thorne are viewed as key players for this season.

So if we have gone backwards in the last 12 months on that basis we would have finished second in the league the season before????

What an utter moron you are p rat.. How can you say we have not improved and gone backwards, whilst in the same post you call other liars...

    re: Expectations

I don't know what to expect this season, as we've all seen in the last few years this league isn't predictable at all. I don't think it's unreasonable for us to be pinning hopes on a promotion push this year, but we're still not anywhere near the finished article, and there are a good 8 teams who will fancy their chances just as much as us.

The expectations certainly seem to be higher - people were complaining about a draw away to Weds last week??!!

The telling stage will be the loans that we bring in, will they fix our weak links? Or will they be just for cover?

Who knows, but its good to have some excitement back.

    re: Expectations

My expectations for this season are that we might make the play offs.

    But also... We might not.

I do not see a team capable of achieving and automatic place.

What I see is a side that, at the moment, looks weaker than it did at the end of last season.

Last season we got into the top 4 playing Eustace in the defensive midfield role, then switched to Thorne for the run in after he made such an impressive contribution. We then extended Eustace contract for another season and put all our eggs in one basket by signing Thorne. That gamble backfired unfortunately so now we have no Thorne (for the foreseeable future) and Eustace doesn't appear to be on the radar either. Instead we've been playing Hughes in that role while we get the new young guy (who may or may not work out) time to get fit and adjust.

Nothing else has changed other than changing Wisdom for Christie. I like Christie so far but I'm also used to seeing players start well and then fade, especially younger ones. So we'll hav
