    The beauty of balance

I know a lot of us on here we questioning whether Hughes could perform and a CDM even before he started there, even more so after the first three games. The answer to that question is probably, he's a talented player. However in our team can he perform how we need there? No.

Today has shown Steve and the rest of us how important balance is. We had that balance for the entire season last year with Eustace and Thorne, and we did extremely well. This season with Hughes, Hendrick and Bryson, we did not have the balance which is probably a huge reason in our stuttering performances before today.

Using Mascarell and Eustace in the CDM role and leaving Hughes/Hendrick/Bryson out of that role is very important, as all three players are most talented when played as attacking midfielders. We should hopefully see a turn around in performances from today onwards now as it has been proven the best players do not necessarily make the best team.

Was a great performance by the team today. Midfield was more balanced, but Hendrick was non existent.

Really? His pass to Russell for Bryson's goal? His spreading of the play to the full-backs?

Interesting on on Hughes. If you flick back to the one nil win again florist two years ago many on here were calling to see Hughes play just in front of the back four to win and spray the ball round.

These that saw this wasn't his position got slated.

The point here is that at this level balance is very important but more so through the spine of the team where you can't play square pegs in round holes.

You can get away with this in other areas of the field.

Hughes role is further up the field with a freer role but this then drops him into the luxury player category. Week in week out can a team in this division afford to play that system?
