We've now conceded 16 goals in 7 games and Ray and Dugdale have started all of them simply because there is no alternative.

That's down to poor recruitment because the manager has chosen to use the budget in other areas despite knowing that neither Davis nor Ellis (nor indeed Mellor) would be available for the start of the season. We were poor defensively last season and yet the manager saw fit to start the season with last season's 3rd and 4th choice centre backs and no back up.

You don't have to know anything about football to understand what poor judgement that shows, pure logic tells you that.

We appointed a new head of recruitment called Chris Johnson last season amidst plaudits for the work he'd done at Leyton Orient. The fans have zero visibility to his activities - whether he's recommended players?, whether we have signed them?, what he has in the pipeline (no need for specifics)?, is there a non league market we might exploit as we used to do?

    The Clayton situation is dis

aren't all of the academy platers Dario players? Isn't that what we pay him a fortune for these days?
Its one of those questions that you feel uneasy to ask ie about Dario's salary? I suppose the Directors don't like asking it either. ie Plead poverty on one hand and then pay 200 grand for the Director of Football that has virtually no influence on the first team which already has two? Can a club of this size really afford it?

Of course the answer was always that Dario spends all his life at RH and what he has given us etc and so nobody dare cut his salary.

Its just one of those questions that keep coming up as why we can't afford this or that player? Isn't that equiva

But I have to ask about the daily stuff and why it isn't getting any better. The board do not do the daily team stuff and the coaching/tactics.

Dario had poor sides at times (google some of our Champ sides, laughable now and who we'd beat) but he always improved the individual and the 'job' they performed. I cannot defend SD by saying that is happening now. I also look at the success and the "up" of the first 18 and the down of the latter 14 (months), and I wonder if it is because there are no Dario players in the side now, and with that draw your own conclusions.

Do you mean that Steve's not playing (enough) 'Dario players'? Or that we don't produce the same sort of players - Collins/Critchley/Morris players perhaps but that the 'Dario' influence on the coaching is diluted?[/quote]

No bigroof, I was being a little Machiavellian and wondering if the succes
