    D_D's Player Ratings vs. Reading

Anyone who turned out for tonight's cup game would surely agree it was worth the very reasonable admission, as Derby played some lovely stuff tonight. Here's the ratings:

Roos 8- "Roooooooooooos" the crowd howled as he made an excellent low save from a one-on-one. It borught back memories of "Poooooom". If he's half that good, we'll be alright. Seriously though, Roos had an excellent game, saving the few attempts Reading mustered. However, the key factor in Roos' play is his distribution. Grant has been a top championship goalkeeper since Steele's arrival, but his distribution is nowhere near as good as Roos'. His diagonal balls to Christie and Forsyth were almost always pinpoint. Grant has real competition this season.

Christie 7- Another powerful display from Cyrus, who would have easily collected an 8 from me if not for the world's worst back-pass, which completely took our whole defense out of the game. Thankfully, Roos came to his rescue. Apart from that, he got forward at will,

Totally agree with all except for best. 5 was very generous of you. Possibly the worst performance I've seen from a derby forward since dean holdsworth stepped off the bench

Just a quick note of thanks from a far flung Ram for your reviews of the games. Much appreciated. They always give a really good and insightful first hand take on the team's individual performances. Cheers!

Spot on D-D. I don't see what Best brings to the team that Sammon doesn't. We push him out on loan and bring in someone no better.

In the general euphoria we need to remember that Reading were one of the first teams to visit us that didn't play two rigid banks of four and that allowed our ball players the time and space.

I uspect the next home game will be grinding it out again.

I know I may get a but of flak for this but was I the only person in the stadium not to be convinced by shotton last night? (and I'm a fan of his). I thought several times in the first half in particular his distribution was lose and a few poor headers gifted them the ball back in dangerous areas.

sometimes football fans see these situations come to nothing and don't think anything else about it. I look more at the percentages (which I'm sure ella appreciates ;-) ) if any one of those times their lad screams in a 20 yarder everyone would be tearing into shotton.

yes I know we won and kept a clean sheet. not complaining but the clean sheet was partly down to their woeful shooting/finishing.

the rest of the game as usual I concur D_D. I agree with chris that 5 is generous for best. he was ****ing useless and just not right for the 1 up front system. impressive displays in particular from Keogh, omar, hughes and of course - Ibe.

Would like to heap further praise on D_D's excellently written player ratings.

Always look forward to them and without question, one of the best things about this board.

    Nice one D_D! From Hungary

It's a good point about Shotton. We must factor in it's his first game at Cb for us, and he's still pretty new to the team. I saw potential there, as his tackling and leaping were impressive. If he can work on his positional sense, he could do a very good job there. Of course, Buxton should remain the go-to option for a left-sided centre back. I'll praise Keogh here as well, as he's gone from having a shaky start to becoming indispensable in my eyes.
