It's better over 13 games but improvement there is no evidence as an overall team and results against opposition.

If you lay the current positions of teams in the league at the moment against the final position of teams last year the results are actually shockingly similar ... So far!

What's the main difference at this point? Last season we had played the three promoted teams by this point and lost all the games. This season on current position we haven't played a team higher than sixth but have played the three in the bottom three positions and win. Last year we had played one who ended up bottom.

The average final position of the sides we had played at this point last year was 10th. But the average current position we have played so far this season is 14th 40% lower.

We have only won two games against top half opposition and highest is eighth.

So do you think once we start playing the sides at the top in a few weeks and last sea

Here's a stat for you (nicked from footy weekly) Ipswichs team cost 10,000 pounds to build. Mick is a genius manager.

Absolutely Triz. We know from the evidence presented in "The Numbers Game" that there is no correlation between money spent on players and success. McCarthy is indeed a good manager who knows how to get a team to play to its strengths.

[quote="ellafella"]It's a long old season that has hardly got going really. Physically the Championship is hugely taxing so squad size and injuries have a massive impact. As many of us have already voiced, a long-term injury to Martin (God forbid!) or Bryson (God forbid) and we will falter.

The statistics can guide but they will only "explain" some of the variance in league positions.

I've seen all home league games this season and a couple of away games. Of the teams I've seen, none really stood out performance-wise in terms of matching the quality of passing football that we can produce. BUT for me Cardiff looked strong (ie good players not performing ) and will probably get much better as the season progresses and the gloom lifts from their recent management changeover.

Fulham also look to be able to turn the corner.

Heres a stat ...50% of people are below average intelligence ... I think this thread proved it. He doesnt say what we want him to lets vote him out burn him at the stake. Should I expect a lynch mob shortly.

Only a fool would jump in at a quarter point of a season proclaiming to be correct. Some would even try and argue an IQ in the 130's is high. Each to their own but both these points are flawed.

As we are dealing with a very mixed bag here lets use theree simple colours Red, Yellow and Green. If we use Red a loss, Green a win ... and if you cant work out what yellow would be please stop reading now and carray on licking the window

Take a look at the pretty colours and compare ...

OK using the CURRENT (rapid this will change as the season goes on) position vs final positions last year. Then an overall grid of results last year. and finally an average of positions in the league played so far this season.

    Clearly peopl

The position of a team in the league when we play them can be misleading. Take Blackpool, when we played them before Christmas last season, and their subsequent free fall. There were endless comments last season about results against the higher-placed teams but that didn't prevent a record points haul.

In 50 league games since the change in manager we have accumulated 100 points - we have had no run like that since promotion under Smith. And that isn't progress?
