    Player Ratings Versus Wigan

    Butland 6
A mixed afternoon on his home debut. A fine penalty save on 41 minutes when he dived to his right and parried around just before Rams took the lead. Looked a bit at sea on a couple of crosses, surprisingly for a big man. Woeful distribution due to repeated punts into touch when seemingly aiming for Forsyth – would have suited a rugby full-back such was his accuracy to always find touch. With Grant we normally build from the back but rarely able to today.
    Christie 5
A shadow of his normal game. Quiet first half and only ventured down the right in the 2nd half. Seemed to be caught out of position a lot though credit WAFC for the nice drilled balls into space down the left which had Christie back-pedalling.
    Whitbread 4
Hesitant. Left side of our defence did not work today. Bring back the Bucanneer who never is in any doubt. I don’t think Zak can perform consistently well enough unlike Jake. Too many times Whitbread looks to worm the ball back to the keep

Not having that for Eustace. Numerous miss placed passes in the first half.
Positionally poor. Thank god he scored, people will remember that and nit the rest.
We were well over run before he went off.

Best team won on the day.

You're always a wee bit harsh on dear little Johnny but you're quite correct and Wigan actually played like the Championship leaders and we played like the team in 17th place. WAFC did us a favour, Angry.

I'm always the voice of reason round here.
Omar on Tuesday will definitely start and hopefully Saturday against Brentford.

We missed creativity yesterday, Hughes, Bryson not on it.

Eustace was poor against Milwall and even worse yesterday.

Too slow and not able to provide the distribution required from a CDM

Mascarell should be given a start.

It could act as a wake up call, indeed. We need to be on it for the Watford and Wolves games coming up, if we are to show we are worthy of an automatic challenge, and there is no better way than doing well against Brentford and Huddersfield to return some fluency and confidence.

If we are playing well, I would expect wolves and Watford to play a little more open, and we can go into December still well in contention.

There is a lot of criticism of Forsyth recently and I think some is a little unfair. Today first half he was basically blocked by Ibe who stayed stuck on the touchline and didn't allow Forsyth to bomb down. Also the way Ibe was playing Forsyth didn't dare go past him as we would have been totally exposed.
In the second half he was my side of the pitch and Simmo was not urging him forward at all, so my feeling was he was playing to orders.

It's constructive criticism. Forsyth seems like a confidence player ie tends to go into his shell when things get difficult. Simmo needs to put his arm around him and tell him to get out of his comfort zone and take the odd risk. Also needs to tell Ibe to get off his backside and put a shift in rather than just show "twinkle toes" every 25 minutes then go back and camp on half-way for 25 minutes.

At the end of the day Brian, they get paid to do a job.

That's a really good spot - how did Forsyth perform when Dawkins came on (I didn't go so can't judge for myself)? I enjoy the Dawkins, Martin & Forsyth combo as it brings some great football to watch, and think that Ibe will be on the bench for a while.

very good summary ella. Russell the best dcfc player by a country mile. workrate was excellent.

only thing I disagree with is that I thought Christie had a decent game. he was particularly good in the first half but it's always the 2nd that people remember more
