A step down from Sammon? Hard to beleive but you are proably right.

If I were SMac, I'd be tempted to have Best in from the start against Fulham in the cup.
He's not had too much game time and on his subs appearances to date, he's far from convinced that he has much to offer. Maybe 90 minutes to see what he can do against an improving Championship side is what we need.
At least with Sammon, his sub appearances tended to give a bit of a lift to Derby and rattled the opposition. I haven't seen Best do anything meaningful yet.
We need a forward who can work with Martin when needed and, God forbid, cover for him should injury or suspension strike. If that forward is not Best, the sooner Smac knows, the better so he can do something about it.
Would you give Best a go on Tuesday?

I'd like to see him play up front just behind Martin

I agree. After yesterday's performance we need to field a strong team to get W
Best is not good enough, he has been woeful for us. No way has he ever put in a shift and caused a threat to anyone. I'd much rather have Sammon on the bench than this guy!
I remember the excitement of the strikers being linked with the Rams at the beginning of the season then being told we have signed Best. I just thought WTF, but at least it's only a loan. Send him back ASAP. IMO like.
I dont see how we can judge a player who has not had many starts and needs a run of games, I'm not saying he isnt very good" just hard to judge on cameo roles, where as Sammon did have a season to show he couldnt cut the mustard! Martin didn't exactly impress in his first few games either and he started every time!!
Be interesting to see how McClaren approaches this one, on the one hand an oppurtunity ofr the team to redeem themselves after a lack lustre performance, but then he needs to give other players game time and much as I love having a cup run, as Wigan (Spit!) found out last season it can be a distraction from the main aim this season.
Definately not. Stick him in the development squad to get him some game time and earn his place in the 1st team squad.
This one hasn't come off.
With Dawkins back, we now have Calero & Ibe available as impact players.
Best out of squad for tomorrow feeling unwell. Perhaps frighted to death in case he has to start.
