Hmmmm, not sure I follow jon. I didn't start the thread for humorous purposes @ all. It was a day with remembrance the key ingredient & those who delivered the wreath added to it.

It's odd that THIS year, Remembrance Day has meant more to me than previous years - mainly because of the prominence given to WW1 on the centenary of its beginning.

My maternal grandfather (from Portsmouth) was in France and five paternal uncles and an aunt (a nurse) were also involved in hostilities. One uncle was killed. I have the telegram of notification sent to my grandparents. I often wonder how they felt when it was delivered - particularly as they were illiterate.

Having said this, I find that what I feel has been almost the glorification of war during the year to be unsettling.

Even more than normal at the Guildhall Remembrance this morning I'd say. Even a group of Shots fans who wanted to be there, great to see. One thing Pompey can do right is stage ceremonial parades. They get plenty of practice doing it.

I must be seeing things differently to some, I see absolutely no glorification or celebration of war. Just COMMEMORATION or if you like REMEMBRANCE..
The Beeb in particular does Commemoration superbly IMHO & today @ FP it was all about remembrance.

Must admit this year with the hacking off of innocent heads it seems more relevant, time to make sure the mistakes of the past are not repeated.
Ignore what's happening now and have a world war later.
