Totally agree. Villa looked like us last season. Just scrambling to get a point. They packed in their Defence, making it hard for a real footballing club like us to play true football. What did Jose M. say after our draw with Chelski last year. Big Sam should have said the same thing after the Villa Match..."Aston Villa have set the game of football back 100 years". COYI! Bit harsh, they were totally crap first half, but second half they came out better. And i wouldnt be surprised if we played similar against Chelski.

If they set football back 100 years, then after l

Amalfitano instead of Nolan and Carroll on 10 minutes earlier imo

    But I suppose I'm nitpicking

Thought Kouyate was strangely subdued. Felt like Downing was the only real creative influence

...and we still should have won easily.

My sentiments exactly regarding Nolan and Carroll

Nolan had about 25 minutes. Someone posted, can't remember who, that all he did was commit fouls.

Is that right or wasn't he as good as that ?

That might have been me, i said his major contribution as soon as getting on was commiting fouls.

He had one bright moment as far as i can recall, but nothing to set the world alight.

Also said it peed me off when Noble had to relinquish his armband for him.

The armband doesn't over-concern me Jon, but his appearance in the team does.

I'm not blaming Nolan although I seem pretty harsh on him as he can't defeat Father Time, but I am criticising Sam for picking him ahead of more effective players.

To a very minimal degree i can see the reasoning behind Samanthas choice of putting him on, more as a goal poacher. But i think he would have done better to choose Amalfitano and bring Carroll on earlier.

Ok, nit picking maybe, and cant in any way complain about the commitment, but imo this game was calling out for Carroll when you consider the amount of corners we were getting, only to concede possession on their delivery.
