As I am past puberty I have neither the want or need to be "liked" by anyone other than I care about.
I was bought up pre-FaceBook, thus don't see the desire to be "liked" by strangers as a prerequisite of life itself.

"Obsession" would be a term I'd use for someone who starts a thread on it in an excited way...
