what a naughty thought. the fact is we'd really struggle to keep hold of martin if a big ish prem club came in for him and like togs says he's the best alternative available for martin.

still, I doubt a club would come in with the minerals needed and I'd back sam rush to keep his man anyway.
Thats a horrible thought, playing our system, Martin is nigh on irreplaceable.

I posted on here back on deadline day that there were two great bits of business that I felt Derby had missed out on

One was Glen Murray's loan to Reading, the other Hudsons to Huddersfield. Being serious about our Prem push, I felt both had something to offer us.

Murray is a proven goalscorer in this division, and as I felt and Dave says, possibly the nearest like for like replacement for Chrissy if he was injured. For me, I would much prefer Murray as option in our squad to Best. Think not only would he be impact from bench, but has enough about him to keep Chrissy on his toes for his shirt. Best just doesnt offer any challenge to Chrissy's starting on every team sheet

Wouldnt say Murray is worth £3.5m, but anything up to £2m I would say is very good business

completely agree but why would murray come here to sit on the bench when he can be playing week in week out elsewhere?

£3.5m for Murray is too much and I doubt he'd come to warm our bench.

What makes more sense would be £3.5m plus Glenn Murray for Chris Martin. Personally I'd turn it down, and I'd expect the club to. It just might be an interesting January.

    Plus, i just thought.

If it is the case that we are being pro-acticve and seeking out players and their related finances, i don't think Rush would be to upset to be told 3.5 million, because that would be Palace's top price imo. We'd probably bid just under a million and then get him for undisclosed.

    Job done.

The price tag makes the whole credibility of the story become questionable already.

We'll never pay 3.5mil for him no matter what league we're in. He wouldn't play unless it was to rest Martin in an unimportant game. Other than that he'd be playing in the cup and 10 minute cameo appearances.

If he's happy to do that and we can get him for under a mil then do it, if not no thanks.

this story was started by the Croydon advertiser then picked up by the hack who does all the gossip on teletext so as he pays for palace two and two makes five its just junk lazy journalism. and anyway why would anyone pay that amount for a guy his age.

Nicky, he's still a Palace player, just on loan to Reading. I doubt they can afford the £3.5m being quoted, if of course that value is even realistic!
