we dont need the academy - we need a reserve side and youth set up

we picked up Neil Lennon - Luke Varney - Ashley Ward - Paul Fishenden - Tony Naylor - Colin Little -andy sus*** - mark gardner - denis nelson etc

all from other clubs - why not now

all the staff required for the
academy are draining all the money - lets start at the begining again - get proper scouting - in ireland - scotland - the money saved could increase the players wages to attract non league players to think about a career here

You want some Academy graduates from outside the local area.

    Seth Johnson (Birmingham)
    Dele Adebola (Liverpool)
Kenny Lunt (Runcorn - closer to Manc, Lpool)
    Byron Moore (Stoke on Trent)

and there are many others who come from towns with closer League clubs than the Alex, eg Murphy from Chester, David Vaughan from Abergele . . and you can't convince me that Callum Saunders and Cassius Cisse would have joined the Alex Academy if their fathers hadn't been well aware of the high standards we offer.

Most of those are what I would call local apart from Birmingham and would want to know how many times a week Johnson came over to Crewe?

You do know that Dean Saunders lives just up the road? And would he really have chosen Southampton when Callum was younger or even now? Unless a million quid was on offer of course.

How many of the current academy are from OUTSIDE the local area, even Liverpool or Manchester even? ie Now we are Cat2

...And I thought this had been done to death!

Since you keep using my, can I just say that the above is not something I have ever said.

And does it matter anyway? The evidence before my eyes is that year-on-year the boys we see playing for the under 18s are improving by comparison with previous groups. These are the potential Crewe Alexandra players of the near future. Many of us enjoy watching them. It gives us hope that we'll see them for the first team, and that the first team will benefit from them. Their parents and family bring them, with much patience and dedication across what you define as the 'local area', over a number of years.

Crewe have a very good, and well-respected coaching programme, and

we might have brilliant coaching but its the wages being paid (Or not) that we need to up
    to get decent pros in

if you were in a job you wouldnt go full time with a club for our poor money

if the scouting system is finding players but were not taking them up then its down to the board to get someone on who will put some dosh in

although we know we have the money buy not in our account but someone elses EH !!!!!

Derek, I know you didn't make the point directly about kids traveling from outside the local area and someone else did and made a comment that parents would not mind taking their kids to an academy like Stoke that puts 10 mins on their journey etc. But could anyone believe it would be ten minutes?

No, I was rather making the same boring point is the majority of all kids in any area would go to their local football academy even if that was Macclesfield or Wrexham never mind Sunderland or Crewe because its not the kids that dictate where they go, its the parents who most will be working and so couldn't take a three or more hour time out three nights a week whatever.

This means that the academy level makes no difference to that choice UNLESS they have real natural ability and parents are tempted by PL million pound sign on. ie 99% of ours were local and that won't change.

I know personally someone who has a 13 year old at RH and he works till 7 pm and he has to organise someone els

I just try to be fair with all posters on here, Supercrewe. The thread that was "locked" by the senior moderator (at my request), took place for no other reason than the fact that several posters were indulging in obscene language and were also being disrespectful and abusive towards one another. Providing posters stay civil towards each other, then there is nothing wrong with them airing their opinions, even if posts become a little tedious.[/quote]

Mick I appreciate you are trying to be fair to everyone, how about been fair to me and reviewing my reqeust.

You are the site moderator so fairness to all is imperative !

Confusingly, in another post you stated that you count Stoke as "local". Ditto Liverpool. So then, the "local" area is actually quite large and crosses many professional football clubs with Academies with whom we compete for players surely? So, quite what is your point here?

I know personally someone who has a 13 year old at RH and he works till 7 pm and he has to organise someone else to take him and so how could he do that if he went to the Liverpool Academy just for an example?
Why don't you ask him why he bothers at all - after all, there's no need for it if the kid has "natural ability" is there?

You constantly cite that you're spouting "facts" but ignor

    Nicely put, Nexus.

I have decided that, despite putting forward what I consider to be logical and consistent arguments forward supporting the Level 2 Academy, I am now wasting my time attempting to debate sensibly with Mike.

I hope he doesn't think that he has persuaded me that he is right, but I have decided not to respond any more to his ever longer (and rambling) rants. At least I am going to try not to let him wind me up further with his nonsense!!

I can see his reasoning but totally disagree with it . . it's just that, as you have so forensically demonstrated, he falls down time and again when his posts get longer. As Hamlet says, brevity is the soul of wit . . . let's see a little more of it!!
