Many thanks Ella, really interesting stats.

Wasn't at Watford, but against Wolves Omar was really resourceful in his passing - long distance, threading between several opposition players, showing real vision. However good the stats, we do need to consider what we see the players doing on the pitch as well.

Are there any other teams with groups of players high up in these stats or are we an exception?

How do we rate as a team in terms of number of passe per game and completion. Also possession. It seems to me that generally we have more possesion than theopposition, but not as high as last season. Am I imagining this or are we just more clinical in terms of use of the ball, so far?

It would be good to see Mascarell's stats up against Eustace.

I could complete 100% of passes to somebody standing 5 yards away!

For the DM role I think we should be comparing Key Passes, Interceptions and Key tackles.

It would be interesting to see what other stats are available to compare midfielders with. Where is your Opta source?
Thank you WS. You are quite right. I will come back later with some bigger picture stats.

Thanks B&W56. You're right, it's advisable to look at a range of KPI's together and they still don't necessarily categorically tell us one way or another.

We do seem to be an exception in having so many players that cluster in the top 10 on a range of indicators...but then you would expect that as we are top of the league. I will report back on a range of these later today.

    re: Highest Pass Completion Rates

Thanks for your interest. There are as we know, an increasing number of statistics collected in the modern game. These are better referred to as KPIs or key performance indicators. Clearly, some are more key than others; and like many have commented, they have to be checked out with “reality” (ie what we know we watch as supporters) for them to make sense.
But the ones which are most key are for me:

average % possession: 55.7% which puts Derby 2nd in the Championship
average pass success %: 81.7% which puts Derby top in the Championship.

Clearly, we keep the ball well and possession is 9/10 of the game.

When it comes to type of passess, Derby have completed an average total of 433 short passes this season (putting them top) and have an average of just 72 long passes per game (which puts Derby bottom!). Bournemouth have the 2nd highest short pass rate and the 2nd lowest long pass rate in the Championship, indicating that “team shape” and rate o
