Excellent question Rapid ….. “How wrong can YOU be?” When you don’t think about a subject and ask questions then YOU will be very wrong. And you nearly always are. Even to the point as to what I have said over the years you seem to have to change and lied about. So you always get it very wrong nearly ALL the time!

    Will Hughes

So over two years ago when people said he was the new Scholes and would leave during the next transfer window for £Xm. I have said he’s young and a steady Championship player (never said rubbish once) not a player that is likely to light up world football as you and others were stating not so long ago. Let’s look at the evidence:

    - Said over two years ago at the time we would be luky to get £500k for him. Never had a bid in two years I believe so proved correct
    - Hes still at the club when other players like Saha and Ince have been snapped up long ago.
    - No big

Ratty I get the points you are making and I feel there is a debate to be had. I am interested to know though, if we keep up our current form and go up automatically, at what point would you think we have improved and progressed,or would you at all?
Good question Triz. But it's like the old question about entertainment or results. Which is best.

We have been pretty consistent result wise since the beginning of last season. Where is it different IMO. Well before this season we would have brought in three or four good players as permanat signings to move the club on and or be sold for profit on top of some progress year on year. I don't see that now. I see the development of the club going backwards. Time will tell be that side has dwindle

I don't agree that you se the work of the previous management just being continued in fact quite the opposite. for the follwoing reasons.

    1. Much more positive tactics, with astute substitutions that have seen us win games that previously we would ahev drawn or lost - witness last night whereby Clough at home and 0-0 took off a forward and put on a dfedner and lost the game.

    2. More entertaining football, better quality more consistent performances - before McClaren, I was getting bored at games.

    3. Consistent top 6 in league, we haven't managed that in many a year.

    4. Given that we are complying with FFP, the scope for bringing in "better" players is limited, yet we did pay £2 - £3 million for Thorne, seeing as our record transfer fee is £3.5 million thats a world away from what we have paid previously and for a player that most would not believe we would actually sign.

    5. McClaren's signings whether pemanent or on loan have proven to add quality to the team - Butland in when Gra

I don't remember those 3 or 4 good players that Clough brought in which would be sold on for a profit?

    Can someone enlighten me?

Of course we could have sold Bryson, maybe Keogh and possibly martin, but then we'd had to fund replacements and lost the team ethic which McClaren has maintained whilst bringing in players to strengthen the squad.

These were the same people who thought that the answer was to give Clough additional finds and it would solve the issue, the fact that McClaren has come in achieved what he has without massive injections of cash and buying expensive players suggests they may have been a tad wide of the mark!

Thats not quite accurate Swales. Its very clear Clough didnt quite have the contacts that McClaren has, but he did do a good job with the resources he did have. I didnt agree with his sacking, and I still am not sure by Sam Rush, regardless of his award, but bringing McClaren in, has worked better than even the most optimistic Ram would have believed.

Although we are top, playing attractive football an
