If Shotton is picked for the next game I'll be gutted!!! I'm sorry but he isn't good enough for this team!

Dawkins, Martin and Bryson were the top three players.

Shotton was our best defender. He was marking Bent, Bucko could have had the day off. Forsyth and Christie were both clumsy, wayward passes and both on stupid yellow cards for large periods.

Yeah i agree, seem to be harsh ratings for a defence who keep a clean sheet - Bent did get a sniff though,

Just shows how people see things differently the Sun gave Shotton 7 and put him and Martin in the Championships Team of the Day

We were great for 25 minutes then after that we were shaky at times. Mascarell got out of position and let them through the middle and Shotton was caught out a few times. A better team would have got back in it.
We are still lacking one top class centre back and defensive midfielder. Thorne may be the latter but I don't think we'll be top in Jan. Not end of the world but we need to be better defensively.

    Good win though

    the sun?

I've never seen such shocking ratings in my life. do they even send anyone to the games?

adi - I can't remember bucko misplacing a single pass other than one which was more of a clearance and you thought his distribution as woeful? how many did he misplace?

Its not that he misplaced them mate, it's that he didn't see what was available right in front of him. The only passes he made were after much deliberation to Forsyth after Brighton had seen it coming, putting the lad in trouble.

He looked like someone who hasn't played for a long time (which he hasn't), which normally is fine, but this season we don't have time, so he needs to pick up the pace quickly.

On a side note, Martin is a real leader on the pitch, I could have mistaken him for being captain yesterday.

Totally disagree that Shotton reverted to being an inept defender, I guess its all in opinions, but overall he bossed Bent and Bucko made some silly errors and passes.

On the whole though a fair summary of the peformance, yes we could have gone and got another 2 or so goals, but its human nature not to bust a gut once you've won the game which is what we did within the first 25 minutes.

I am gonna give an arguement for the (central) defence...

Apart from Bents offside "goal", when did Brighton get in behind our CH's?? I cant remember once. So IMO, that is the first job of Bucko and Shotto...protecting Granty from being exposed. Next priority is then to minimise shots from distance be that blocks or marshalling midfielders and clearing crosses. Again, I dont remember Grant being too troubled by either

And then, we look to the C's to receive the ball and play out from the back. Generally, I wasnt too concerned by poort distribution from them. A clean sheet (even against a not so good team) has to be earnt, and think Bucko and Shotton delivered on that count

I think we tend to focus too much on the ***ier side of our play, lauding the performances of Martin and Russell without giving due credit to those who do the dirty work. That said, thought Chrissy M and Bryson were both at their best. Dawks also had a good game but he needs to string it together with an e
