    are we underachieving?

Yesterday I had a conversation with a friend of mine when I got home who is an Ipswich fan he said we have the best squad in the championship but lack a motivational manager and that got me thinking are we underachieving with the players we have?
I am not banging the drum for bowyers head I am a big fan of his for what he has done for this club but it is certainly food for thought are we lacking that big leader on and off the pitch who can change this team from quite inconsistent to Dominating matches.

I'm not calling for Bowyers head because he's done alright, stabilised the club and bought some decent players in. I'm concerned though because I look at other clubs, who have inferior squads and see Managers who can motivate and get the best out of their players. To be frank, I just think that Bowyer is not that big a "name","personality" or motivator, he's a coach and we suffer for that. I believe he's got this season to do something before the board ship him out

Just removing the Blue and White tinted spectacles ..can anyone really say we ve played really well this season ?

We lost yesterday for the first time in ten games which sounds great but only 4 wins out of those ten games ..really not promotion winning form is it.I know the team has to start somewhere and by being unbeaten in nine is a decent run but just like the previous season where we flirted with the playoffs we had another unbeaten run and all agreed that we had too draws which takes you nowhere in this league.

I for one feel we do have a decent squad but even ive questioned ..Are these players really as good as i thought ?..are they ??

I said in another thread i do believe we ve been punching above our weight recently ,and results have papered over the actual performances on the pitch. But there comes a time when you re under performing you will finally get found out ..maybe that time was yesterday.

As for GB ..hes done enough to hold his job but as a few posters have mention

We are in contention. And most fans said they expect play offs. That's where we are hovering. And we haven't even reached the mid way point yet. From what I've seen so far, I don't see us falling away. I do think we will lose the odd game. I think the majority of the time, we have found a way of getting results. As the past year has shown. We aren't miles better than Sheff Wed. Equally Derby aren't that good either. There are such fine margins in this league, literally anyone can...and will...beat anyone. What we have done is found more consistency than teams like Wednesday. On any given day, we could beat them, and vice versa. I don't think anyone in this league are playing well Howie (to answer your question) Derby (who a lot rate highly) certainly aren't. They lost to Leeds last week (who are poor) , and followed that by winning. They only lost to Wigan the other week (another poor side). I fully expect us to bounce back, and don't think we are now poor ( and can go retrospectivly t

I think we are at a similar level to many other Championship teams. Do we really have the best squad in the Division? I doubt that our midfield group is in the top six, and that is often the key area.
I agree with much of Champs' post - and look at what Boro did the week after we held them to a draw.
The thing that worries me most is our lack of dominating performances. We are much too patchy. In that light, we have done well to get as high as we are.
Is it down to Bowyer? Obviously, he carries the ultimate responsibility, but we must give him a chance, in terms of seeing what the second half of the season brings.
I still believe there is a lack of ON-FIELD personality and leadership, and I would be tempted to give David Dunn more game time because he has those qualities, even if he has slipped in terms of pure ability.

    re: are we underachieving?

Hmmm so we re in a league full of poor sides yet only seventh ..?

Doesnt look too good then ...too much emphasis on other sides frailties to paint a picture we re doing rather well .. rather than looking at exactly what Rovers offer ..which isnt the best.

As Champs has pointed out on another thread ..fail at Brentford and suddenly things are looking rather mediocre indeed.

Cant keep on relying on other teams to perform badly because there will come a time when a few teams will finally click and leave the rest behind ..

Hopefully Rovers will (and should) be in that group ..

No... your expensively cobbled together bunch of Championship journeymen are massively overachieving at the moment.

Thank you kind sir for your view from a neutral and not in anyway showing your dislike for the rovers
Burnley are very fortunate to of come across dyche as he could motivate a grannys 11 to play decent football
When he gets sacked/leaves for better things Burnley will drop like a stone as your tight fisted board will employ a useless nobody as usual
So enjoy your success you have a good one in Sean dyche.
