Why dont we play with 2 defensive midfielders.
As chelsea and middlesbro have in the last 2 games.
We could then play with hen****,bryson ,hughes and 2 upfront.

christie, keogh,shotton,forsyth
coults, omar m
hendrick,hughes,bryson
russell,martin
Surely this would give us a better balanced team going forward and defending.

yes sorry take out hendrick
If we go up, playing two holding players will be a must IMO.

Chelsea play 4-2-3-1 rather than 4-2-2-2. costa is usually the striker but drogba was last night. the others are attacking midfielders. it's the same formation we played when we had commons, bueno, cwyka attacking mids with kuqi up front.Originally Posted by richytheram123
I really don't understand why people think we should change formation every time we lose a game. when you say it's 'surely more effective' if you look at the points we've accumulated under this system it's more than anyone else in this division since we adopted it.
then of course add that last night we played the best team in the country and one of the best in Europe and under that system we gave a damn good account of ourselves.
don't get me wrong if we had to change formation that's probably a good one to look at but the one we've got at the minute suits our players perfectly imo. the only place we've lacking is the holding midfielder but when thorne comes
Chelseas formation took Chris Martin out of the game. They had two centre halves and two midfield minders so CM was trying to win balls in the middle of four players. Given he's so pivotal to our link up play they killed it from the outset and took out a major part of our game.
I don't think 4-2-3-1 is totally out of the question this season; I think it will be an option when Mr. Thorne returns.
A midfield of Thorne and Omar holding, with one of Will/Bryson/Hendrick in front of them would leave us a bit more solid, but we should still have a fair bit of creativity.
It would also allow Hughes or Bryson to stay further up the pitch more, which could be a good thing.
That said, getting enough men forward may then become a problem. Remember, we play patient football around the opponent's final third, which requires a lot of bodies up the pitch to do so.
I'm happy with our system and the way we play, but its food for thought!
4-2-3-1 Is the formation for me against good opposition. Martin was totally ineffective again on Tuesday. Keep what we are doing the The Championship but that won't cut it in The Premier League, especially with our back four..Originally Posted by D_D
