    If we had beaten QPR

Assuming we had retained the nucleus of the team that finished at Wembley, with the liklihood of keeping Wisdom and possibly Bamford too, how do you think we would be fairing now?

Looking at Leicester struggling, who were definitely a class above us last season I think we would be down there with them and Burnley.

We are not playing as well this season either, so I think it would be a relegation battle that we would currently be fighting.

I believe not going up was a blessing in disguise. IF we go up this season I think Steve will now have a better idea of where we need to strengthen, more so than if we had won at Wembley.

So in conclusion, I think we may be better prepared IF we go up.

    I don't agree ... Suprise suprise!

I think we have very few plays capable of operating in the PL. Last season and more so now going up we would need massive investment in the team to sustain it.

I have been a staunch supporter of the owners and GSE over the years but I fear minimal investment and a quick off load.

If you read what I put I am actually saying the current squad is not good enough to survive in the Premier league, but Steve will have a better idea of what is needed to at least make a fight of it. Whether the owners will provide the necessary funds it a totally different matter.

Therefore, it is difficult for you to disagree with my original post because to a large degree, you are agreeing with me.

    Read the rats post again.
He's saying that it doesn't matter what Steve knows/wants. He's saying he fears GSE will sell out at that point, rather than find 60 -

I don't think they will sell they have gone through too much to not at least enjoy one season in the top division but I do agree without major investment we just are not good enough to last more than a season our defence although not bad are simply not the quality we need and our front line would also need improving but I have faith in McLaren that he will give it a bloody good go! After Christmas I'm hoping we get our act together and really finish strongly because we deserve a crack at the Premier League COYR

Agree with the first bit, and don't think many/any of the current squad would be first team regulars in an established prem team. A few might be squad players, but if we did go up, we would essentially need a whole new team.

As far as the comments about GSE are concerned, only they know for now, although we will all know in time.

Not sure I agree that this season we would need more investment than last season IF we get promoted.

Agree that some sensible additions would be required for a reasonable chance of survival but at least this time IF we got promoted, we ahev coaches who have been there done that and that for me would make a big difference.

AS for GSE's intentions - who knows, I'd have thought for their blue print to work (or at least their publicly stated one) then they would need to establish Derby in the Prem as Stoke and Swansea have done and we have a bigger revenue generating base than either of those clubs.

    Its all a bit premat

I am hoping we go about it in a similar vein to WBA, Hull and Burnley. If we go up, we retain most of the squad. We add to this with a striker and a CH and play the season out. If we get relegated so be it, but we then keep the squad and mount a serious challenge again in the championship. We keep adding to the squad, without breaking apart the key elements of it. Obviously some players may go, but we can then get (hopefully) decent amounts for them, as opposed to off on frees!

It might make us a yo-yo club for a while, but allows us to build sensibly, without incurring massive debt, bringing in freeloaders and ending up with old timers on long contracts.
