Eustace Returns...

Some of the comments on here about Eustace are hilarious.

I wasnt at the game yesterday, nor could I listen, as I am in Iceland (not the shop ) . However, anyone can see the extra weight Eustace gives us when he plays, as opposed to an inexperienced Mascharell. By the same token Eustace hasnt got the the same skill set as him either, but we do need a solid central midfielder that will stick his boot in and break up play.

Its also worth mentioning for the umpteenth time, that Eustace was never, ever bought in as a first team starter. He was brought in 18 months or so ago, to help us out in the 2nd half, to stop all the points we used to drop in the last part of games, when we conceded so many sloppy late goals. This is testament to the guy. He wont guarantee us a win, but what he will do, is make us more solid. Attacking wise we are sound, we will score goals in 90% of matches, but when we are pressured we need that extra something which he provides, and the other central midfielde

Not sure if this is absolutely the right time to raise this but there is a train of thought that suggests that had Eustace played at Wembley in May, then things may have been very different

I've said it before when a few numpties were calling for Hughes to play at DCM,it is a hugely important position for us and we need someone that specialises there. At the minute the only one we have fit is eustace. That about sums it up for me, like him or loathe him he's all we have.

Not strictly true, he is the only out and out defensive midfielder, but I dont think we need him there very game and he wont play every game, Mascarell did a good ajob in many of his games, Wolves being a case in point and wasn;t too shabby against a strong norwich side, it was'nt down to him they equalised.

Given the plan was Thorne as first choice and Eustace as cover, McClaren's done well to mix and match with a key player out of the running.

I Don't disagree with that Swale, at times against certain teams we can go with a passer rather than a protector and that has worked well, like in the games you mentioned. But I think more often then not we need a defensive minded player in that position, and that will free up the likes of Hughes to play how he did today, and keep clean sheets.Mascarel looks a good loanee to me but maybe played further up.

I'd play him against leeds, seeing as we know what to expect, though whether they will be as bold away from home is open to question, he can then have a rest as he won't be needed for Southport.

It is horses for courses and I think thats what McClaren has been trying to do, not sure what Eustaces fitness problems have been but hopefully with careful management he will stay fit until Thorne returns, though he won't be in form for a while.
