    Don't like it mate...

Hughes too far back, we thrive on his composure around the penalty box.

Thorne doesn't need help, he does what Mascerall & Eustace does combined.

Martin needs to be up front, Bent could massively feed off his knock downs and hold up play.

Not enough width, to play that system you'd have to drop Bryson for Ward / Dawkins / Ibe.

    Sorry!

I think we'll start seeing 2 up front in games we need to break down, losing a midfielder.

I reckon 4-4-2 becomes much more potent now. Simply swap Eustace for Bent if chasing. Will always operates well in a 2 man midfield, particularly when we're in the ascendancy, and Martin having Bent's excellent movement to work with could lead to a fair few goals.

Except that we have operated with a 3 man midfield for most of the season!!

Why do we need a plan B? Plan A has got us third and currently third. Plan A has got McLaren the highest points haul in a calendar year in the country.

    Apologies for not being clear.

I don't think Steve will divert from a 3 man midfield, nor do I think he should.

When I say 4-4-2, I'm referring to a "plan-B" within a match, not from the start. A few times this season, Steve's put Best on for Eustace. It leads to us getting more men in the box, as we play more directly, but Leon doesn't seem to do much once there. I reckon Bent would thrive is a role like this.

I know he won't want to be a sub all season, but do you not think Bent has Solskjear-esque qualities?

That's how I read it Toggles, as a different option if we're chasing a game or can't break a team down.

Only thing being is that formation lacks width and crosses are something which Bent in particular thrives on. The onus will be heaped on the full backs to get forward.

It's created great competition for places though,

Personally I would like to see us operate an old fashioned diamond formation which is a spin on the current 4-3-3 formation

    Grant

    Christie- Keogh- Buxton- Forsyth

    --------- Thorne/Eustace/Mascarell

    -------------- Bryson.---------Hughes

    --------------------- Russell

    --------------- Bent ----------- Martin

I don't think we are as reliant on wide forwards with those three up front and our full backs are more than capable of bombing on and allowing the defensive midfielder to sit deep and make a back three. I'd also look at interchanging Russell with Martin (I could see Martin being very effective in the hole in the Premier League)
It's very flexible and could be a 3-5-2 or a 4-1-3-2. There is also Hendrick who could slot in to the middle or Hughes could even play at the tip of the diamond. As I see it we now have quality, flexibility and cover! COYR!!!!
