Thread: 5-3-2

    5-3-2

New formation today, Christie and Forsyth as wing backs, 3 CBs, 3 centre mids and Martin + Bent up front. Is this a solution to the Ibe situation, as it doesn't require wingers? If so we need another Centre mid in, with only 4 players for 3 slots.

This sounds like a good plan B that everyone's been asking for. Very interesting, and removes the need for Eustace. It gives a good rest to Russell and Ward. Attacking options are easy to add if we need a quick change.

Lot's of freedom for Christie and Forsyth.

Plaudits for the change - Lets see if it works!

It's ok. Just swap one of the 3 cb's for a third cm between Hughes and Hendrick and I think it'd be perfect

Well that didn't last long. Back to 4-3-3. Albentosa off for Russel. It was worth a try.

Not sure it would suit us as that formation tends to let the opposition have more of the possession. We tend to retain the ball and hit teams.

So plan Z then not B!

hope we don't try that again (I don't think we will either).

fair enough it's the kind of game where you can try something different and still have the quality to pull through but 5-3-2 was bordering on disastrous tactically. you could see forsyth having to come inside every time because he didn't have that extra pass to an ibe or dawkins.

it meant a lot of sideways stuff so not effective attacking. then without the ball we weren't able to get close enough to them without as many bodies in midfield.

that formation made chesterfield look good in the first half.
