    Upbeat and Shocked !

I know we have been playing rubbish, but I too had hope like some of you that there was an improvement. I listened to it on Radio Scotland and followed on twitter and we sounded much better. We did show some pride and competed, which all of us have been asking for as a minimum.

I have watched the highlights and was aghast that our two penalty claims were turned down. Whether this would have made any difference to the result is an unknown, but they should have been given, although is always subject of an opinion.

What is not subject of an opinion is the laws of the game, which were not followed as far I can ascertain. I read that a dropped ball took place after the disallowed goal and he shooed away Pearson and below are the laws.

LAW 8 THE START AND RESTART OF PLAY
    Dropped ball
Any player may challenge for the ball (including the goalkeeper). There is no
minimum or maximum number of players required to contest a dropped ball.
The referee cannot decide who may or may not contest a

Mix106, you are right in talking about the goals we lost, and the fact that not getting penalties is just part of the game, however the rules regarding drop balls should be known to any referee at ANY level. Putting Motherwell at one side for a minute, it is just another example that some of them can't even get the RULES right

I agree mentioned this in a previous post why have rules if refs dont know them and all we are asking is for a level playing field we have been howling all season and deserve to be where we are but if we get the 2 pens on saturday you never know what the outcome would have been when your at bottom you get nothing when your at top you get everything and that is wrong The pushing away of pearo at the drop ball was either cheating or total incompetence take your pick but i have never refereed a game in my life and i know both teams must be allowed to contest a drop ball but in many occasions some teams decide not to

P1sh referees will always be with us every team gets their share from them. Just ask any Motherwell fan who witnessed the abysmal JPR Gordon officiating at our Scottish Cup semi final against Rangers in 1976.

Referees are human humans make mistakes all the time. Referees not interpreting the rules as fans see them has been the case for a 100 years. Many managers and players have also shown over the years they don't know the rules either. If it just happened to Motherwell fair enough but it doesnt all teams get their share (bar

the point that refs are human really irks me... The are NOT just human. They are trained specialists paid £840 a match to get this right!! (eqiv. £336 an hour if you count 30min before and after a match!)

Deplorable that for such a high fee these guys are making mistakes in games every week, and it's not even the most highly contested matches with world class players they have to keep up with!

The dropped ball situation is surely one for further action. It's not a matter of opinion; it's not a matter of being unsighted, or of interpretation. It's a law of the game.
Both of our claims should have resulted either in penalties or bookings for our guys. There was neither.
I still find no comfort in the 'things even out over the season' argument, whether it's pens or other decisions. A Maths - teaching colleague (a former pro footballer, but, sadly a Heart of Midlothian supporter) assures me that logically there is no reason why they should even out. Even if dodgy decisions did balance out numerically, a dubious penalty 'for' when your 0 - 5 down in the 90th minute isn't worth as much as one at 0 - 0 in a ***** relegation match.
But the debate will go on!!
