    Lapping & Boyle

    Hello Carlisle fan here.

We might be getting taken over and these two have been mentioned in a possible consortium.

Andrew Lapping in particular (who is a lifelong Carlisle fan apparently) is the man behind it seemingly.

What can you tell me about them?

    Good and bad!

    We could write the book!

Boyle bought Motherwell in 1998 and spent a lot of money in a well intentioned but unsuccessful attempt to make us the third force in Scotland. He called a halt in 2002 and entered administration.

He retained control and we emerged a few years later and ran more or less in the black. In 2011 he handed his shares to the club and set us on the path to fan ownership.

    A benevolent owner.

I'd be surprised if he got involved with another club.

Lapping was a director of Motherwell for several years in the Boyle era.

I doubt if John Boyle has the cash to invest in another club now, and I would question if had the stomach for investing in football if he did.

Good luck to the Carlisle boys.

You are not inferring Boyle is short of a bob or two. Its their employees they leave skint when their ventures fail not themselves (ala David Murray)
