By the way Mascarell played and we kept a clean sheet, just saying like!!
So far so good then, Bent has added goals and if he keeps this up he will be a very cute acquisition.
Thoght Shotton was Ok at Rb as well, now here come the stones!!!
Omar and Shotton had good games tonight, as did everyone. Bent definitely added something to the attack with pace, muscle and positional sense.Originally Posted by swaledale
Not sure about describing our formation as a diamond. The midfield didn't have much shape with basically 6 players covering a lot of ground and protecting each other.
We generally kept 3 at the back alternating a full back going forward. Bent stayed high Even Mascarel got to the edge of their box a few times.
Anyway whatever its called it worked a treat.
I would describe it as a 4-4-1-1 which occassionally became 4-4-2
Wasnt a diamond, defo flat 4 across midfield with Hendrick on right and Bennett on left
there haven't been too many problems with him at home and with Blackburn's hoof ball tactics it was hardly a testing game for him defensively! let's see how we get on at Cardiff.Originally Posted by swaledale
as for plan B, I don't think we were any better with it. we were much more in control in the 1st half in our usual shape. yes of course we struggled to break them down but that was down to the woeful end product by ward and dawkins. the amount of times we isolated their full backs 1 on 1 and with what we created, it was laughable.
when we changed formation we looked much more vulnerable. if not for a world class save from grant we probably wouldn't have won the game.
Darren bent was the difference. he's a great poacher as he showed last night and a match winner. it's really tough to see how it all fits together.
As I said elsewhere we seemed in control in the first half but they had more shots on goal than we did and could have been in front.
Second half WAS better because we scored twice and they weren't lucky or against the run of play goals.
Cardiff will test Mascarell no doubt but I think he is hardening up a lot.
