What brilliant signings.

Both immense tonight. Bents tenacity created the first, and he took his goal really well from tight angle. Top strikers goal.
Ince was a thorne in Bournemouths side all night. His interplay with Hughes and Christie was womderful.
Prior to signing him, I remember reading a comments of yours saying Ince would fit our system perfectly. Just thought I'd save you having to do a "told you so" post.Originally Posted by Rapid
He has been excellent in his opening two games, both in terms of his individual brilliance and his conformity to the norms of the team.
Bent's also impressed me no end. I knew/hoped he'd score goals, but he's bought into be the "lone striker" Derby need. I've always preached of Martin's importance to the team, and how pivotal he is to our promotion push, but Bent offers genuine cover in that position, not just a stop-gap. His running and selflessness combined with his pace and poacher's instincts make him a great player at this level.

I'm not a 'told ya so' kinda guy, more of a 'quiet smile to myself'.
but seeing as you've mentioned it...
I think so much of football is round pegs in round holes. you saw what mac did with our 4-3-3 system. the clough debate has raged on forever but the fact is that mac found an almost perfect system to suit the players.
that relates to ince a lot. sometimes very talented players lose their way when they join different clubs because their best position is so specialist. in the old 4-4-2 system that everyone played in the 90's - it

A Baggies mate said to me yesterday that he'd seen Ince play twice for Hull against WBA and his conclusion was that he was a Championship player who'd been found out in the Premiership.
Ince success has been variable up to now, notwithstanding ONE very good season in his time at Blackpool.
No apologies for expressing some scepticism about his arrival but very happy to be proved wrong. If MacClaren makes a good call in thinking Ince will do well here and also makes Ince a better player that;s fine.
Few players have had such good starts a Ince and Bent.
glad you told us so.
*cough* told ya so *cough*
Ince's goal record is the best of any winger/inside forward in this division over the last 4 seasons. Says it all.
Just waiting for Dawkins to shove other comments down people's throats, starting with last nights assist. He's our second most gifted player in my opinion. Technically, that is. Nothing stopping him being a brilliant Championship player.
He's played less professional games than Hughes because of 2 serious injuries. He'll come good.
Hope neither can be recalled by their clubs
I totally agree with the square pegs in round holes analogy. Same with managers to be honest. Some players just fit a certain club or team - it might be the system, it might be the type of players they are playing with, it might be the personalities of the other players in the squad, it may be the personality of the manager and/or coaching staff, the fans, the area, personal life etc.
There are many variables. Both Bent and Ince have proven themselves to be very good players but they have also had spells where they've not done so well and questions have been asked. No good player suddenly becomes a bad player, that doesn't mean that they will work if you put them into another situation.
I never doubted either of them in terms of ability, although I have questioned the cost. But I doubt anyone could have anticipated the immediate level of their contribution and impact.
On the subject of being right or wrong, you are only right if the player works and that is something that nobody can
