The lad started the season well...going forward with pace ,defending well.
He seems to now not use his pace...he slows it down...loses the ball..gets caught out of position , and causes issues for our defence.
If that is confidence or instruction to play that way I don't know.
He was always a sided midfield player after all.
Either way, christie and mascarell = weak links

I think you are being a bit harsh on the lad. Remember we only signed him at the beginning of the season and then from Coventry. When he first came everyone thought it was a great signing. No one could really expect him to play well all season. He needs a rest to get his confidence back. He's still young. There were other older and more experienced players playing in today's debarcle who should take the blame

It's not harsh...it's saying it as you see it..Steve took him off...maybe he will rest him now to get his confidence back...,best outcome for all concerned.

you hit the nail on the head here Paulo. although everyone was poor, Christie and mascarell were woeful.

feel a bit sorry for Christie, as you rightly say is very very low on confidence. he started off like a train on fire but is really struggling now. that first 45 really was as bad as you say. perhaps something to do with mac dropping him for shotton earlier in the season?

as for mascarell. he was a disgrace and I don't think that's being unfair. the things that Christie did were poor but not intentional. mascarell on the other hand, turning his back (costing as that first goal) constantly selling himself getting beat and the worst of all, shirking 50/50's! didn't get stuck in at all today. didn't stand up to be counted.

unacceptable. and it appears (almost) everybody has woken up to that fact now.

we desperately need thorne back because he's a bloody liability in away games.

Problem is we don't have a right back able to play consistently to our system.

4-3-3 with a central defensive midfielder needs the full backs to push on.
Christie can be good doing this but when it isn't "happening", you need him to defend first and not over commit. His decision making is suspect.
Shotton on the other hand defends well but as an attacking force... well he just isn't one. He also thinks he's better than he is.
If we are to take an emergency loan, right back is where I would be looking.

I'm surprise at Christie because he looked very good at attacking and defending when he first came in.

However, he's having a rough time now but at least we have Shotton as cover.

Mascarell is a lovely silky player; but has always been a weak link for me and we really need to stop playing him especially in away games. There are aspects of the CDM role that he just doesn't do, and his game usually has at least a couple of lose passes and missed tackles. Most players get away with it but in the CDM role it usually is a mistake that gets punished.

No need to panic. Martin surely must be about ready and Thorne (touch wood) will be back for the rump of games which are surely going to be the acid test.

Absolutely Ella, there is no need to panic at all. Other challengers are also slipping - Boro have lost 2 out of 3 whereas Bournemouth haven't won for a while. An East Anglian Derby today means someone, hopefully both, will lose poi
